Kathmandu, March 14:
An air quality measurement station
has been set up at local Ratnapark with the joint initiatives of the Ministry
of Population and Environment and International Center for Integrated Mountain
Development (ICIMOD).
The
station is set up to easily know the quantity of dust particulate matters and
smoke released from the burning of gas, diesel, petrol, firewood and sun-baked
cow dung, the Ministry said.
Ministry Secretary Dr Bishwanath Oli inaugurated the
station in the presence of ICIMOD Director General David Molden. Such type of
station has already been set up in Pulchowk, Dhulikhel, Sauraha and Lumbini
with the technical assistance of ICIMOD.
Such
station was established at the US Embassy in Maharajgunj today itself. On the
occasion, US Ambassador to Nepal Alaina Teplitz said the US was joining hands
with Nepal in the environment protection efforts and such cooperation would
continue in the future, too.
