Nepalgunj, Aug 8: Local leaders in Banke district have demanded with the authority concerned to consider again the draft of the local body restructuring.

They argued that the draft on the restructuring of village unit and municipalities in Banke was not scientific, they argued.

The Local Body Restructuring Commission had proposed four village units and one sub-metropolitan city and similar number of municipality for the district but local leaders claimed that the proposed restructuring had not proportionate distribution of geography and population.

Nepali Congress district president Krian Koirala said that the proposal did not take into account the access of locals, their participation and facilities when it came to determining the local bodies' number in the district.

Similarly, CPN-UML district chairperson Ashok Koirala was of the opinion that a couple of local structures need to be added for the district. "Separate cluster should be mulled for the area within and beyond the Rapti River," he added.

Likewise, CPN-Maoist Centre's district coordinator IP Kharel pressed for seven local units in the district.  He also demanded revising the threshold for population for deterring a local units from the existing 50,000 population to 35-35 thousands.
