A meeting between the government and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) representatives held at the Prime Minister’s official residence Friday evening agreed to sit for another round of talks to discuss the UDMF's political demands, according to PM’s press advisor Pramod Dahal.
As per the meeting decision, Minister for Law, Justice and Federal Affairs Agni Kharel and Nepal Sadbhawana Party Co Chair Laxmanlal Karna will sit down to decide on the Morcha's demand of withdrawing cases labeled against UDMF cadres and leaders involved in the Tarai movement.
UDMF leaders Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato, Sharat Singh Bhandari and Manish Suman were present in the meeting. The UDMF leaders Friday itself submitted a seven-point memorandum to the Prime Ministers, seeking his attention towards their demands.
The memorandum comprises the formation of a judicial council or a political commission to deal with the Madhes agitation-related incidents, rewriting of the constitution, declaration of martyrs, withdrawal of cases filed against the UDMF cadres and leaders with the formation of an independent judicial investigation commission and assistance to the earthquake victims and control of black market.
