Kathmandu, Jan 30: Irrigation Minister Umesh Kumar Yadav has said a new strategy on multi-use of water was essential for the irrigation development in the country.

Only new strategy can help develop irrigation, the Minister said at an interaction organized at Reporters' Club on Saturday.

Special irrigation project would be introduced in Tarai/Madhes very soon, he said, adding that the Ministry of Finance was demanded the allocation of Rs 5 billion every year for flood control in Tarai and irrigation promotion in hilly regions.

Similarly, the Minister said the government has planned for construction of at least 10 ponds in every constituency, irrigation through solar energy and announcement of model irrigated village and fully irrigated VDCs.

The Irrigation Minister further said the government will not bring any project costing less than half million rupees. According to him, the Gandak project and Sunsari-Morang would be upgraded.
